Coronavirus In RI: East Providence Parks Reopen With Restrictions

While courts remain closed, and gatherings severely limited, the parks are open as of Friday to passive exercise.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — Like the rest of Rhode Island, as of this weekend East Providence public parks are back open for business this weekend.

Also, like the rest of the state, there are considerable restrictions in what can be done in those parks due to the new coronavirus health emergency.

With Gov. Gina Raimondo lifting the stay-at-home order in the state for the first time in six weeks, stores can open in the city with proper safety precautions. That also goes for those who want to exercise in city parks, effective Friday.

While amenities such as basketball courts, skate parks, and tennis courts, remain closed, fields and paths are open to "passive" recreation, including walking, running and biking.

Those taking part in the activities will be required to wear a face mask, not gather in groups of more than five and social distance at least 6 feet among those not from the same household.
