East Providence Church Vandalized Overnight Saturday
Saint Martha's Church was unable to hold Sunday services due to the vandalism.
EAST PROVIDENCE — An East Providence church was vandalized so badly overnight Saturday that Sunday services were canceled.
The altar, living quarters and rectory of Saint Martha's Church on Pawtucket Avenue all were vandalized, police said.
"Officers observed numerous broken windows, graffiti, and writing on the walls," the police department said in a media release. "Vandals had rummaged several areas of the building."

Police were called to the Pawtucket Avenue Catholic Church about 8 a.m. Sunday, according to the release.
"The break-in is believed to have occurred between 8 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday," the release said.

"Investigators are asking members of the public to check their surveillance cameras and to please report any suspicious individuals who were seen in the area between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.," according to the release. "Anyone with information to share is asked to call East Providence Police at 401–435–7600."
