East Providence Firefighters Extinguish House Fire (Video)

The fire started in the kitchen at 185 Ivy St.

East Providence firefighters and police responded to a fire Tuesday at a home on Ivy Street.

They were alerted to the fire by a man who was walking his dog and saw smoke coming from the home, which is at the corner of Ivy Street and Blanding Avenue, according to Battalion Chief Glenn J. Quick.

Firefighters responded and it took about 20 minutes to get the blaze under control, Quick said. At times, it was about 1,200 degrees inside the home, and he said he rotated firefighters in and out because of the extreme heat.

The fire is still under investigation, but it was believed to have started in the kitchen and was confined to the first floor, Quick said. No occupants were home at the time, and a dog was rescued, he said.

"The guys did a great job," Quick said. "Nobody's hurt, the guys are OK, the dog's OK. It's all good."
