East Providence Leaders Continue to Debate Time Clocks

Mayor Bruce Rogers is seeking time clocks at City Hall, but Councilman William Conley has questioned the need and potential cost.

East Providence leaders continued to debate the need for time clocks at City Hall during Tuesday night's City Council meeting.

Interim City Manager Orlando Andreoni said he had been working on a potential plan to have employees log in through their computers, at no additional cost to the city.

Mayor Bruce Rogers had raised the issue months ago, saying he had tried to contact city department heads at their desks one work morning and had not been able to reach them.

But Councilman William Conley praised the work ethic of employees in the city's public works, planning and finance departments and questioned whether the city could run afoul of federal law by requiring certain employees to account for hours.

Andreoni said he was aware of the restricted employees and would not include them. For more on the debate, check out the video.
