East Providence Police Arrested Providence Firefighter for Drug Trafficking

The case is now in the hands of the Attorney General's office.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – A Providence firefighter was investigated by East Providence police in connection with drug trafficking.

The case has been turned over to state Attorney General Peter Kilmartin's office, according to Amy Kempe, spokeswoman for the AG.

To summarize the information, she said, Ricardo Garcia, 47, of Cranston, was charged Oct. 18 with felony possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (cocaine).

He was charged "by way of secret information by the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office," Kempe said.

A pre-arraignment conference is set for Nov. 4, and the arraignment has been scheduled for November 14.

"East Providence Police conducted the investigation," she said.

The East Providence chief's office did not return a call asking for comment.
