EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — Two Rhode Island men suspected of a New Year's Eve bank robbery in East Providence were arrested early Thursday morning at Twin River Casino. East Providence police said Justin Worley, of Cranston, and Nicholas Lage, of Warwick, are suspects in the theft of more than $11,000 during the robbery at the TD Bank on Broadway shortly after 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
Both men were charged with first-degree bank robbery and conspiracy. Police said Worley was also charged in connection with a series of bank robberies in Massachusetts and Rhode Island in 2012, and had been dubbed "the bearded bandit."
Police said they responded to the robbery report on Dec. 31 where witnesses told them that two men fled in a car. Police examination of the bank's video surveillance helped create a description of the suspects.
