East Providence Police Charge Man With DUI, 4 Children In Car
Lester Morgan, 59, of Norwich Connecticut, had four children under the age of 10 in his vehicle at the time of the arrest.
EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — A Connecticut man is facing charges of driving under the influence and drug possession after he was pulled over by East Providence over the weekend. According to police, four children were in the man's car at the time of the arrest.
Officers pulled over Lester Morgan, 59, of Norwich, Connecticut, on Warren Avenue on Saturday. At first, Morgan did not stop, instead continued to drive at a slower speed before eventually coming to a stop in the area of Brightridge Avenue, police said.
During the traffic stop, Morgan failed a field sobriety test, showing signs of "significant impairment" and failing to answer basic questions. During a search of his car, police found an empty bottle of whiskey, about five grams of marijuana, approximately one gram of what is believed to be cocaine and one OxyContin tablet.

Morgan was arrested and charged with the following:
- Driving under the influence, blood alcohol content unknown with a child under 13 as a passenger
- Possession of schedule I-V (cocaine)
- Possession of schedule I-V (OxyContin)
- Driving in possession of controlled substances
- Refusal to submit to preliminary breath test
- Refusal to submit to chemical test
- Possession of marijuana
The four children, all under the age of 10, are not related to Morgan. He is a family friend who was driving them home from an event. Officers brought the children back to the police station, where they were able to get in touch with their parents.
