Updated: Stabbing Victim Dies

The suspect, James Stevens, 29, of Providence, is considered armed and dangerous, East Providence police said.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — According to news sources, Jaspar Wiliams, of East Providence, has died. He was the victim in the Saturday night stabbing on Warren Avenue.

East Providence police did not return calls last night asking if the charges would be upgraded against the suspect, James Stevens, 29, of Providence. He was wanted for attempted murder. He may be driving

a white 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the Rhode Island plates JH 259.

Police are asking for the public's help finding him.

"Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the East Providence Police Department Detective Division at 401-435-7600," police said but added Stevens should be considered armed and dangerous.

He's wanted on the attempted murder complaint over the stabbing Saturday night. The victim, Jasper Williams, 24, of East Providence, remains in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital, police said.

The officers responded on Dec. 10 to Warren and Lyon avenues for a reported stabbing and found Williams lying in the road.
