East Providence Solar Project to Receive Recoverable Grant for More than $200,000

The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation announced the grant Monday.

East Providence will receive a $200,310 grant to help develop the solar energy project planned at the former Forbes Street landfill.

The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation announced the grant Monday. It will help the city finance a 10-15 megawatt solar panel energy installation at the site, according to a news release.

The city will be responsible for paying the grant back on an agreed-upon schedule, according to the release. The project is expected to become one of the largest solar facilities in New England once it is fully operational, according to the release.

Gov. Lincoln Chafee is planning to visit the site Tuesday.
