Albert Parenteau, 43, is in custody. He is a suspect in a June 12 stabbing at 12 High St., police said.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — East Providence police have arrested Albert Parenteau, 43, a homeless man. He is a suspect in a June 12 stabbing at 12 High St., police said. Parenteau was arrested after police received a tip that he was seen walking toward the High Street address Friday at approximately 6:15 p.m. He was found hiding in a bedroom.
Officers had set up a perimeter around the residence and contacted the female resident, who is the suspect's relative. (She has a no contact against Parenteau, due to a previous Domestic Assault case.) She told officers that Parenteau was not inside; but based on her nervous reactions, police asked her to meet the officers to make sure she was safe. She stated she would, but after several minutes, she did not open the door. "Numerous attempts were made to call her again, but she would not answer the phone, despite officers outside hearing it ring," police said. "Fearing that the female resident was in danger and exigent circumstances were present, officers forced entry into the residence where they found Parenteau hiding in a bedroom."
He was taken into custody without incident and will be facing the following charges: Assault with a Deadly Weapon; Felony Violation of a No Contact Order (2 counts); and Superior Court Bench Warrant for Failing to Appear for Arraignment, on a Bail Violation, for a Domestic Strangulation Charge.
