East Providence To Wrap Up Birthday Party Parades

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — For the past two months, East Providence police have tried to brighten the days of youngsters missing out on a birthday party with due to the coronavirus health crisis with parades full of flashing lights and blaring sirens.

But, with the expiration of the state's stay-at-home order and more a resumption of many typical duties as the economy reopens, East Providence police informed residents that they will no longer be able to fulfill those requests.

East Providence police said they will honor any requests already accepted, but as of Friday will not be accepting any new requests.

"During the last couple months we have participated in many, many birthday drive-by celebrations," East Providence police said. "To say this has been a smashing hit is quite the understatement. We are so happy we could play a small role in bringing happiness to children and their families during these times. To see the smiles on those kid's faces has been very uplifting!"

Several departments in RI and MA, including Smithfield, recently announced they will no longer be able to take part in the party parades.
