Family Displaced by Fire on Raymond Street

Firefighters responded to a structure fire around 3:15 p.m. on Friday.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI—A Friday afternoon fire in a home on Raymond Street has left a family without a home. According to Battalion Chief Michael Carey, the Red Cross is assisting two adults and two children.

The first call came into the fire department around 3:15 p.m., he said.

East Providence Firefighters sent four engines, two ladder trucks, two rescue squads and a special hazards unit to the scene.

No one was injured, Chief Carey said. However, there was extensive damage inside and outside, he said. The building inspector came to survey the damage, and the property owner is boarding up the structure. National Grid also was called to cut off electrical power and gas.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Chief Carey said, but it is believed to be accidental.

The Fire Department cleared the scene at 5 p.m., he said.
