First Budget Commission Meeting Held at City Hall

East Providence's first budget commission meeting was held at city hall Wednesday morning. According to reports from EastbayRI.com, the inaugural meeting nominated a temporary chairman and reviewed the status of .
School committee member Chrissy Rossi posted meeting information on Facebook Tuesday night insisting the meeting should be open to the public. A number of Patch users wrote comments urging residents to to show their support. A small group congregated outside the meeting room.
State Director of Revenue Rosemary Booth Gallogly said budget commission meetings did not necessarily have to be posted in accordance with open meeting law unless members take actions regarding the approval of collective bargaining agreements, the levying of taxes, the adoption of a municipal budget, rulemaking, or dissolving the budget commission's authority to make sound financial decisions for the city, according to the state statute.
