Former General Treasurer to Run New East Providence Bank Branch

Paul J. Tavares will be branch manager of the new Washington Trust Branch opening on Taunton Avenue in September.

East Providence residents will see a familiar face when they visit the new Washington Trust bank branch in September.

The company announced Tuesday that Paul J.  Tavares of East Providence has been appointed vice president and branch manager of the new branch at 587 Taunton Ave., which is scheduled to open in September.

Tavares is well-known statewide and in the city. He was elected Rhode Island's general treasurer in 1998 and served in the office until 2006, according to a Washington Trust news release. He has more than 27 years of banking experience and most recently served as executive director of the East Providence Housing Authority, according to the release.

“We’re excited to welcome Paul to our team,” Joseph J. MarcAurele, Washington Trust Chairman, CEO and President said in the news release. “His commitment to the area will help Washington Trust become part of the East Providence community and assist residents, businesses and non-profit organizations with their personal banking, commercial banking and wealth management needs.”
