Former Non-Profit Head Charged with Embezzlement
Shemika Moore allegedly robbed the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, which helps young African-American women in high school.

PROVIDENCE, RI — The National Coalition of 100 Black Women is supposed to help African-American high school girls. The Rhode Island local chapter has been funded by state grants and member contributions, which paid for "a range of programs including financial literacy training, leadership and community economic development," said Maj. Dennis Fleming, Detective Commander for the Rhode Island State Police.
But now the former president of the local chapter is under arrest.
Today, Shemika L. Moore, 37, of North Providence, was charged with embezzlement over $100, Fleming said. She was scheduled for arraignment before a justice of the peace later tonight.

Police allege she embezzled about $6,000 from the agency for personal use, Maj. Fleming said.
"Officials from the agency contacted the Rhode Island State Police to file a complaint alleging that Moore had stolen money from their agency’s operating account," Fleming said. "A subsequent investigation showed that Moore allegedly used the agency’s bank account to pay for $5,887.64 in personal expenses – including car payments, cell phone bills, movie rentals and hair salon fees."
