Governor for a Day: 11-Year-Old Mianna Gonsalves
Mianna, 11, won Gov. Gina Raimondo's Women's History Month essay contest and was sworn in for a day of official government business.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — Mianna Gonslaves may be just 11-years-old, but the East Providence fifth-grader has the ear of some of the state's top political leaders. Mianna won the governor's Women's History Month essay contest and was the 2017 Governor for a Day. She accompanied Gov. Gina Raimondo to a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Westerly, helped make pizza at a healthy cooking demonstration at Johnson & Wales University and led a round table discussion with female leaders in government, the governor's office said.

Mianna's swearing-in ceremony was attended by many public officials, including Presiding Justice Alice B. Gibney and state Supreme Court Justice Maureen McKenna Goldberg.
