Great Escape: An 'Elite' Experience

The writer felt like royalty during her first massage.

Every girl wants to get pampered from time to time. Everyone has their own ideas about what the term means. Vacations can be pampering events. The bi-weekly regime of mani-pedis can be a consistent treat. And let us not forget the emotional cure-all of chocolate and ice cream.

My latest idea of “pamper me” is Elite Skin Rejuvenation Day Spa at 65 Barney Ave. in Rehoboth. I had never had a massage, but my friend invited a handful of gal pals to join for a combination day of her birthday celebration and luxurious indulgence.

The spa's receiving area leads into a peaceful waiting room. I felt like royalty as I sampled hors d'oeuvres and a glass of white wine and experienced a cozy neck wrap. Next came my massage. I relaxed onto the massage table in a softly-lit room as the sound of water trickling and strong instruments enveloped me.  My massage was a magical performance that matched the feeling of peace I felt since I first walked through the spa doors.

When people boast of relaxing massages, I guess having never had one, I thought it to be expensive hype rather than an necessary perk that all should try at least once in a lifetime. When you have two kids, a husband, and all the lovely chaos that entails, you forget to do the “Calgon moments." If money was never an issue, I think I would take advantage of an entire spa day with everything from bottomless mimosas, facial, scrub, and massage. I might even ask if I could stay for the weekend!
