Joaquim M. Barbosa, 95
He was a shoelace inspector and painter and served in the Army in Portugal.

Joaquim M. Barbosa, of East Providence, died Jan. 27, 2013 at Rhode Island Hospital surrounded by his family. He was 95.
He was the husband of the late Maria Almerinda (Pacheco) Barbosa. Born in Pedreira, Nordeste, Sao Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late Davide Moniz de Melo and Virginia (de Medeiros Barbosa) de Melo.
He worked as a shoelace inspector for Lincoln Lace Braid Company in Providence, and was a painter and served in the Army in Portugal. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing music, riding his bike, gardening and wood crafting.
He is survived by his thre sons, Joao Pacheco Barbosa, Davide M. Barbosa and his wife Hilda and Eduardo Pacheco Barbosa, all of East Providence; five grandchildren, Daniel, Steven, Laura, Paul and Jennifer Barbosa and five great- grandchildren, Christian, Sophia, Jacob, Natalia and Zachary Barbosa. He is also survived by his sister, Maria Amelia Teixeira of East Providence. He was the brother of the late Maria dos Anjos de Melo, Manuel Moniz Barbosa, Maria Inez de Melo, Maria Isabel Branco and Joao Moniz Barbosa.
Calling hours are today from 5 to 8 pm at Rebello Funeral Home, 901 Broadway, East Providence.
His funeral will begin on Thursday at 9 am from Rebello Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 am in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Traverse St., Providence. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
