UPDATE: 11-Year-Old Boy Reportedly Doing Well After Near-Drowning in Pool

Lifeguard Regan Jeffrey is credited with pulling the boy from the pool and getting him breathing again.

A lifeguard saved the life of an 11-year-old boy who nearly drowned this afternoon at the East Providence Boys and Girls Club. The 20-year-old lifeguard, Regan Jeffrey, pulled the boy, identified as Joshua Adweysi, from the pool and administered mouth to mouth until the boy started breathing again.

Erin Gilliatt, director of the Boys & Girls Club, said the club hosts the East Providence Recreation Department’s summer camp program for a weekly open swim. About 61 children were at the pool at around 2 pm when children began screaming about a boy at the bottom of the pool. According to Gilliatt, the boy is a good swimmer who swam to the bottom of the deep end but did not come up.

Jeffrey dove down and is credited with saving his life.
