Milton L. Tahakjian, 85
He was a career Navy veteran who was part of the Normandy invasion in World War II; after retirement, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service.

Milton L. Tahakjian, of East Providence, died surrounded by his family on Jan. 19, 2013, at the Hattie Ide Chaffee Home, East Providence. He was 85.
He was the husband of Frances (O'Donnell) Tahakjian. Born in Providence on Feb. 7, 1927, he was the son of the late Levon Tahakjian and the late, Takoohe (Tarigian) Tahakjian.
He is survived by four children, Milton Jr., Pamela, Christine and Mark Tahakjian, five step-children, Doreen, Susan, David, Scott O'Donnell and Kathleen Daley, 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Margaret Kaloostian, Mary Hintlian, Martin and Leo Tahakjian.

A World War II Navy and Air Force veteran, he spent a career in the Navy. He was part of the invasion of Normandy in 1944. After his retirement from the Navy, he was employed by the United States Post Office.
His early years of education were at Boston Music School and Rhode Island College. He was considered a gifted musician and vocalist.

Calling hours are today, Jan. 22, from 5-8 pm from the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9 am from Perry-McStay with a service at 10 am in Hope Congregational Church, 120 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.
Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Association, Rhode Island Chapter, 2915 Post Road, Warwick RI 02886-3117 or Hattie Ide Chaffee Home, 200 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence, RI 02914.
