Missing Mass. Girl Last Seen in Rhode Island Found Safe

A 20-year-old man who went on the run with a 15-year-old Martha’s Vineyard girl was charged after authorities found the pair in Connecticut.

Megan Donovan, of Edgartown, was last seen on Martha’s Vineyard Friday, police said. She left the island in the afternoon and was later spotted in Providence, Rhode Island in the company of Gregory Mooney, of Mashpee.

Police said on Tuesday night, Mooney used a cell phone from someone he met at a diner in Wallingford, Conn., to call a friend on Cape Cod. Police were notified of the call minutes later, but Mooney and Donovan ran away from the diner. Police searched the area the entire night to no avail. But Wednesday morning at about 10 a.m., police found the pair.

Mooney was charged with risking injury to a child. Donovan’s parents were en route to Connecticut to reunite with their daughter. Her mother had traveled to Providence after that first sighting to lead the search effort.
