Murder Suspect's Car Found in Johnston, East Providence Detectives Say: Suspect Still At Large

The car James Stevens was driving is in East Providence Police custody, detectives said.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI— The white Jeep implicated in a fatal stabbing last Saturday has been found, but the driver is still at large, East Providence police said this morning.

Det. Lt. Raymond Blinn said the Jeep was found in Johnston and is now in East Providence police custody.

James Stevens, 29, of Providence is wanted for murder, Blinn said previously. He allegedly stabbed Jaspar Wiliams, 24, of East Providence. Williams died Thursday at Rhode Island Hospital after suffering injuries in a stabbing on Warren Avenue on Dec. 10.

Stevens should be considered armed and dangerous, police said. They are asking for the public's help finding him.

"Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the East Providence Police Department Detective Division at 401-435-7600," police said but added not to approach him.
