Nearly a Year After Barbershop Killing, Suspect Arrested

Police said Thomas Mosly, 33, murdered Yusuf A'Vant last August as he was working in his barbershop in East Providence.

A man who allegedly gunned down a popular East Providence barber last summer has been arrested.

Thomas Mosley, 33, was arrested Tuesday for allegedly killing Yusuf A’Vant last August as he was working at his Krazy Kuts shop on Pawtucket Avenue.

A’Vant died a few days after the Aug. 13 shooting at Rhode Island Hospital.

“We hope that this arrest will begin to bring closure to the family and friends of Yousef A’Vant, and our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you,” said East Providence Police Chief Chrisopher J. Parella. “Since this terrible event took place in August of last year, the East Providence Police have considered this investigation to be a top priority. This top priority status will remain in effect as the case continues through its prosecutorial phases. ”

Police said they got help from the Providence Police Department and the state police.

“The synergy between agencies was instrumental in this arrest,” the chief said.

Mosly was ordered held without bail after his arraignment in Sixth Division District Court.
