Obituary: Joao P. Gomes, 92

Joao P. Gomes, 92, of Raymond St., East Providence, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Sunday morning, May 17, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Maria “Lourdes” (Pacheco) Gomes.

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, on Sept. 7, 1922, he was a son of the late Arturo and Amelia (Pires) Gomes. Mr. Gomes proudly served in the Portuguese Navy.

In addition to his wife of 70 years, he leaves his daughter, Matilda Souza and her husband Joseph; his granddaughter, Janet Desrosiers and her husband Andre; his grandson, Joseph J. Souza and his wife Kristen; his four great grandchildren, Andrew, Jared, Victoria and Nicholas; and a brother, Mario Gomes.

His funeral will begin Thursday at 9am from the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Francis Xavier Church, 81 No. Carpenter St., East Providence. Burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday 5pm until 8pm.
