Orlo Avenue Fifth Grader Becomes Chief of Police for the Day

Orlo Avenue School fifth grader, Victorrino Gomes, takes over as Chief of Police for the day in East Providence

Orlo Avenue fifth grader, Victorrino Gomes, became the ceremonial Chief of Police for the day on September 29th. At officially 2:30pm, Chief Christopher Parella relinquished command of the East Providence Police Department and turned it over to Victorrino. During his time as Chief, Victorrino was given a tour of the facility, taught about dispatch, and lead evening role call telling all of the officers to “be safe out there”, with a huge smile on his face. When asked if he enjoyed being the Chief, he answered saying that “when he grows up, he would like to become the real Chief someday” that is, if his career at the Pentagon doesn’t work out, he told the department.

Sergeant Michael Rose played an integral part in coordinating Victorrino’s memorable experience and showed him the ropes, along with Patrol Officer Jeff Perry, while he served as Chief. Sergeant Rose awarded Victorrino with a certificate and an official ID.

Congratulations Victorrino Gomes, you did a great job as Chief!
