Red Cross Aiding Those Displaced by Boyd Avenue Fire
Eighteen individuals were affected by the blaze.
The Rhode Island Chapter of the American Red Cross is working to help the 18 people displaced after Sunday morning's fire on Boyd Avenue in East Providence.
Sixteen adults and two children were . The Red Cross is providing a combination of temporary lodging and financial assistance for emergency clothing and food needs for many of the people displaced in the multi-unit fire.
According to Emergency Services Director Elizabeth McDonald, some families needed assistance in all areas, while others needed only lodging or only help replacing food or clothing.
A team of seven Red Cross volunteers helped with the response. American Red Cross disaster assistance is free of charge, a gift made possible by generous donations and the work of volunteers.
Rescue crews from Providence, Warren, Barrington and Cranston assisted the East Providence Fire Department on Sunday. After the blaze was extinguished, firefighters worked to isolate electrical power in a section of the multi-unit complex.
