Rhode Island: 'Marijuana Capital' of the United States?

Thirteen percent of Rhode Islanders smoke marijuana monthly—the highest rate in the country.

The Ocean State may as well be called the Marijuana State, according to data compiled by the Washington Post.

The Post’s Christopher Ingraham combed through the latest National Survey on Drug Use and Health and labeled Rhode Island as the “marijuana capital of the United States” when it comes to pot use, as 13 percent of Rhode Islanders over the age of 12 smoke marijuana monthly. It was the highest percentage in the country, ahead of Colorado (10.4 percent) and Washington (10.2 percent)—the two states that recently legalized pot sales.

Alaska (12.97 percent) and Vermont (12.86 percent) had the second- and third-highest rates in the country, respectively.
