AG Peter Kilmartin said 16 state Attorneys General have signed a Friend of the Court brief, which follows other legal actions last week.

PROVIDENCE, RI—Today, sixteen Attorneys General, including Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin, announced the filing of an amicus brief, Kilmartin's office said. The brief comes in support of Washington and Minnesota in the federal lawsuit against the Trump Administration’s executive order on immigration.
It is signed by Attorneys General from California, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia, and follows other legal action by state Attorneys General to oppose President Trump’s order.

The amicus brief makes clear that the states have standing to challenge the immigration executive order because of the harm the order inflicts on the states themselves, including financial losses due to disruptions at state schools and hospitals and lost revenues from business travel and tourism.
