EAST PROVIDENCE, RI —A temporary child's amusement park set for Riverside this summer is on track to open later in July.

East Providence Mayor Bob DaSilva said the amusement park at the Crescent Park Looff Carousel is already under construction, but won't be accepting riders on the rides for at least a couple of more weeks.

"The operators got an early start on setting up their equipment however the open up date is not until later in the month," DaSilva posted this weekend. "We want to give families a safe place to recreate and enjoy some traditional summer time fun, while keeping all Covid-19 guidelines in place."

WPRI-TV reported that state regulators have agreed to allow the "Kiddieland" park amid the coronavirus health emergency with a maximum of 15 children allowed at the park at any one time. Riders and park workers will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and rides will be sanitized between each run.

The temporary park is expected to be in operation until November.
