Riverside Robotics Team Grabs Award

A team of sixth-graders in their first competition takes home a third-pace award at the Technology Student Association of RI championships.

A robotics team at Riverside Middle School participating in its first competition took third place last Saturday, March 23, in the Technology Student Association of RI championships.

The event was hosted by New England Institute of Technology in East Greenwich. It was sponsored by the Rhode Island Technology Engineering Education Association (RITEEA), according to coach John Marsula, a robotics teacher at the school.

The team included four sixth-grade students: Nicolas Lee, Calvin Lee, William Ferreira and Andrew Duckworth.

“They did remarkably well for being a novice team,” said Marsula.

The students received commendations for being “very innovative in their ability to think outside of the box," he said.
