Rowing Club to Fete Season, Raise Funds

East Bay Rowing plans a celebration and fundraiser next Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Barrington Yacht Club.

East Bay Rowing celebrates its fall season next Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Barrington Yacht Club. It's a fundraiser for the program as well.

The rowing club also is looking ahead to the spring, when it hopes to expand its roster of rowers at all age levels, said Carolyn McGarry, a club member.

"East Bay Rowing's newly formed competitive youth team has competed with success in several local regattas this fall, including The New Bedford Chase, Textile River Regatta in Lowell, Mass. and, most recently, the New England Junior Regional Championship in Worcester, Mass.," said McGarry.

The team, comprised of both a novice junior women's 8+ boat and novice junior men's 4+ boat, as well as individual rowers, practices daily out of Walker Farm under the guidance of East Bay Rowing coach and Barrington resident Deb Sullivan, she said.

In inclement weather, the team trains on WaterRower machines at 426 Fitness in Warren. Members of the team, in fact, recently participated in Row for the Cure at 426 Fitness.
