Sen. Whitehouse to Visit East Providence Wastewater Facility Friday
The visit comes a day after Whitehouse introduced federal legislation to create an endowment to protect waterways.

U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse is scheduled to visit East Providence Friday and tour a wastewater treatment facility.
Whitehouse will tour the Narragansett Bay Commission’s Bucklin Point facility, "which uses wastewater screening equipment and the surrounding natural resources to prevent polluted runoff from reaching the Bay, " according to a news release.
"The visit comes following Whitehouse’s introduction today of legislation to create a National Endowment for the Oceans, Coasts, and Great Lakes, which could support research, pollution reduction, and protection efforts by the Narragansett Bay Commission and other Rhode Island organizations," according to the release. "The legislation would also protect the research, tourism, and fishing jobs which depend on healthy ocean. According to the National Ocean Policy Coalition, coastal and marine waters support millions of jobs nationwide."
