Spend April Vacation Exploring Mashantucket Pequot Museum’s Spring Events and Exhibits

WHAT:

The Mashantucket Pequot Museum offers education and fun for all ages during April Vacation Week (April 12 through April 20). Whether it is learning about soapstone carving or visiting the Backyard Monsters’ exhibit to learn about the life of insects, guests will have the opportunity to discover new facts in a hands-on learning environment.

Backyard
Monsters: The World of Insects

Find out what's happening in East Providencefor free with the latest updates from Patch.


Come face to
face with an animated, 11-foot-tall, 22-foot-long tarantula, a 19-foot-wide monarch butterfly, and a pair of giant fighting beetles. Focusing on entomology – the creepy, crawly study of insects – Backyard Monsters integrates state-of-the-art animatronics with insect specimens and carefully designed interactive components. Take a mechanical insect for a walk,build a bug, learn how insects communicate, make a bug rubbing, among other activities. In the Mashantucket Gallery. Free with Museum admission, free to Museum members.

Bugs Alive! Harris in Wonderland


Adam Harris,
of Harris in Wonderland, talks about unique features of insects that make them perfectly adapted to survival in their environments. Get ready to discover some truly unique living creatures from the animal world. Meet interesting spiders, centipedes, millipedes,scorpions, cockroaches, giant stick insects, and other bugs face to face. Find out exactly what they are doing in their busy lives. In the Gathering Space.  Free with Museum admission, free to Museum members.

Soapstone
Carving Workshop


Seneca/Cayuga  sculptor Tom Huff works with a variety of stones, styles, and themes – both

Spring
Vacation Week at the Museum


Extended
days! We are open all this week. What better way to spend your vacation than learning something new at the Pequot Museum. Find yourself among giant animatronic bugs in Backyard Monsters in the Mashantucket Gallery. On Friday, Apr. 18, be inspired to create your own buggy monster, 12-3 pm, with our help. Free with Museum admission, free to Museum members.

Wildlife
rehabilitators Julia Collier (Chickasaw/Creek) and Jim Parks bring their ever-popular program on rescuedbirds of prey to the Gathering Space.  See six live birds of prey, including an eagle, and find out about bird flight and feathers, where they live, and what they eat. As rehabilitators, their goal is to release birds back into the wild; however, the birds they bring have sustained injuries that prevent them from living on their own. Visit with Jim on Monday and Julie on Wednesday. In the Gathering Space. Free with Museum admission, free to Museum members.
