St. Mary Academy -- Bay View Celebrates Catholic Schools Week

Among the week's highlights, the students organized a soup collection to benefit homeless women and children.

From St. Mary Academy:St. Mary Academy - Bay View celebrated Catholic Schools Week with the theme of "Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed." The focus throughout the week was on giving thanks and assigning each day to a different group of people we are thankful for.

Monday celebrated the theme of community, and the start of a week-long soup collection to benefit the McAuley Ministries, specifically the McAuley House, which helps provide shelter and food to homeless women and children in the Providence area. As part of the “Souper Bowl of Caring", students and faculty were invited to bring in food donations to earn a dress down day.

On Tuesday, students showed their appreciation for their families by writing letters and thanking them for choosing a Catholic education at Bay View. There was also a liturgy inside McAuley Hall Chapel for all the families of our Lower School students.

Wednesday was dedicated to celebrating friendship. Our Lower School students held a Friends of Mercy Bake Sale during all school lunches with 40% of proceeds going to charity. Older and younger students also buddied up for a screening of "Leap" in the Mercy Hall Auditorium.

Thursday was Student Appreciation Day. The Lower school students proudly wore their class colors and were treated to a giant-sized donut that was sprinkled with their particular class color.

And finally, on Friday, students delivered letters of thanks to members of the Lower School’s faculty and staff, all of whom were invited to dress down themselves and enjoy a lunch from Panera. Students who donated a can of soup to the “Souper Bowl of Caring” dressed up in their favorite football team’s attire/colors. The halls were overwhelmingly red, white and blue in support of the New England Patriots. Over one hundred eighty cans were collected throughout the week.
