East Providence Digs Out After Snowstorm

The roads are passable in the city.

Life in East Providence started to return to normal Monday, as residents began to dig out from the first major snowstorm of the season.

By the early afternoon, many residents had already dug out their cars, driveways, and walkways. Others cleared driveways only, but not their cars, and some people had not been out at all.

Some families, like the Brennans of President Ave. in Riverside, started their shoveling endeavours on Sunday afternoon.

Others resorted to outside help. Jeff Cruz of Riverside does snow removal as a side-job. "I got swamped with calls today because I'm $5 less than everyone else. I couldn't take on everyone who called. I've been out here for about eight hours today."

Road conditions throughout the city were much improved today, with most main roads in good shape, including Willett Avenue, Pawtucket Avenue, Wampanoag Trail, Grassy Plain Road, and Bullocks Point Avenue, though snow drifts and high winds are beginning to scatter powdered snow on the roadways once more. Turnarounds on Wampanoag Trail, however, are not in as great condition.

Crescent View Avenue in Riverside, along with most residental streets are still not down to pavement, so caution should be observed on these roads.

The National Weather Service reports that Monday night is expected to be mostly clear, but the temperature is expected to drop to 13 degrees, with blustery winds.
