Suspected Killer Indicted By Providence County Grand Jury

James Stevens, 29, of Providence, will face a trial for the murder of Jasper Williams. U.S. Marshals tracked him to El Paso,Texas.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — James Stevens, 29, of Providence, has been indicted by the Providence County Grand Jury, the state attorney general's office said Tuesday. He is charged with one count of first degree murder. Stevens stabbed Jasper Williams on Dec. 10 in East Providence, police allege.

Williams died at the hospital two days later. Stevens fled. He was on the run for two weeks before U. S. Marshals arrested him in El Paso, Texas.

East Providence Police conducted the investigation. Stevens is scheduled to be arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on June 14.
