Why Don't You Touch-a-Truck This Saturday?
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the East Providence Area Chamber of Commerce, kids get to inspect and toot the horns of military transports, rescue vehicles, buses, milk trucks, and more.
On Saturday, May 5, the will host its sixth-annual Touch-A-Truck event in their office parking lot at 1011 Waterman Avenue in East Providence. The event is open to the public and is popular with young children. It will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to members of the Chamber.
"The event takes up the entire parking lot behind two office buildings and is bigger than ever with over 30 different vehicles from area businesses, organizations and individuals including: WWII Army Jeep, Army humvee, cement truck, RIPTA bus, police and fire vehicles from East Providence Police and Fire Departments and more. Kids will be able to get up close, touch the vehicles, pretend to drive them and toot the horns," reads a press release.
The Roaming Railroad, a trackless, colorful train will be giving free rides for children and adults inside the event. Channel 12’s Pinpoint Weather Mobile is scheduled to track the weather at the event. Special visitors include: Providence Bruins’ Sambon, Puffin from The Children’s Workshop, Paws the Pawtucket Red Sox mascot, Captain Hemoglobin from the Rhode Island Blood Center and new this year, Andy the Android sponsored by Wireless Zone/Verizon Wireless. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras for taking pictures in the Pomham Rocks Lighthouse photo booth and with special visitors.

In light of the current economic climate, the admission fee is only $4 per person for children and adults or $16 for a family of four or more. It’s a real bargain with the free rides, games and giveaways that participants will receive.

Touch-A-Truck is an annual event and major fundraiser for the East Providence Area Chamber of Commerce, a non-profit, 501c(6) organization. Since 1897, the Chamber has been providing support and services to area businesses and serves the communities of East Providence, Barrington, Seekonk and Rehoboth. It is not affiliated with local municipalities and does not receive any revenue from tax dollars. It is a self-supporting, volunteer, membership-based organization.
