Trio Accused of Scamming Elderly Couple with Bogus Repairs

What started with an offer to fix a driveway led to one check being written, and another, and another.

Three people have been arrested for allegedly bilking an elderly East Providence man out of more than $30,000 for bogus and shoddy repair work.

Police said that Anthony A. Williams, 32; David Johnson, 33; and Sally Davis, 30, all of Providence, have been charged with exploitation of elders and conspiracy for the alleged crimes.

All three were arraigned on Sunday and bail was set at $50,000 with surety for Williams and Johnston; Davis was held on $20,000 surety bail.

It all began earlier this week when the child of the victims called police to report the alleged scam.

Police said the three suspects came to the house and offered to repair the driveway and make minor repairs to the outside of the house.

They then said more work needed to be done and eventually made their way inside to perform more phony repairs, police said. Over the course of three days, they extracted $30,000 from the elderly couple.

An inspection showed that many of the jobs they billed for were never done and the work they did do was substandard, officials said.
