Volunteers Needed To Build East Providence Playground

Donations of snacks and drinks are needed along with volunteers to help build the playground on August 17.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — The Emma G Whiteknact School Parent-Teacher Association is recruiting volunteers to help build the school's first-ever playground. The August 17 event will require manpower to build as well as donations of snacks and drinks.

City officials including Mayor Bob DaSilva, school administration and members of the city council will be on hand to help with construction. The new playground will be complaint with the Americans With Disabilities Act, allowing all children to enjoy it, regardless of their abilities. Features will include an aeroglider, a ramp for a wheelchair, crawl tubesand audio-accessible activities.

The playground committee collected $115,000 for the project from the city's school department and local sponsors. This will be the first playground ever build on school grounds.

The playground build event will take place on August 17 from 9 a.m. until the early evening.
