Wanted for Murder: East Providence Police Upgrade Charges After Stabbing Victim Dies

Jaspar Williams, 24, of East Providence died Thursday at Rhode Island Hospital, East Providence detectives confirmed.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — James Stevens, the suspect in a stabbing Saturday night on Warren Avenue, is now wanted for murder, East Providence police Det. Lt. Raymond Blinn.

Blinn confirmed Jaspar Wiliams, 24, of East Providence, died Thursday at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the victim in the Saturday night stabbing on Warren Avenue.

Stevens, 29, of Providence, should be considered armed and dangerous, police said. He may be driving a white 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the Rhode Island plates JH 259.

Police are asking for the public's help finding him.

"Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the East Providence Police Department Detective Division at 401-435-7600," police said but added not to approach him.

Police responded on Dec. 10 to Warren and Lyon avenues for a reported stabbing and found Williams lying in the road.
