Teachers Get Drenched for Fun, Profit

The Martin Middle School PTO hosts a spring fair that featured games, vendors, a silent auction and a 'Bucket Brigade' complete with water balloons that got a few teachers plenty wet.

Students couldn’t wait to see their teachers and principal take a dunking Saturday at the Martin Middle School spring fair – over and over again.

The Bucket Brigade attraction seemed to be the most popular stop for students. See the Patch clip at right with teacher Chris Kennedy .

But, in short, teachers took turns sitting on a chair in a wading pool and waited to get wet while students fired a ball at a target. Hitting the target activated a metal rod that pushed a nail into a water-filled balloon sitting in a sling. Splash!

There were plenty of other activities as well, including the middle school’s very own Idol event, a baseball throw that calibrated speed with a radar gun, a basketball throw, and a soccer kick competition.

Anyone could buy tickets for a silent auction with plenty or prizes to go around. Vendors set up dozens of booths inside the cafeteria. And no one had to go hungry with popcorn, pizza and make your own ice cream sundaes.

Dozens of students helped art teacher Amanda Rapoza prepare a mural for her master’s thesis at Rhode Island College. And the East Providence Middle School Athletic Booster Club staffed a table to raise more money for sports.
