What’s New at Fall Book Sale at Weaver Library
Fall Book Sale Features Venmo, Extra Room of Books, Donations to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library
There’s always room for improvement, even at a book sale. At the Fall Book Sale, Oct. 22-25 at Weaver Library, East Providence, patrons will have a new payment option. In addition to cash or check, patrons can pay by Venmo. Introduced on a trial basis in the spring, the cash app was well received and will be available throughout the Fall Sale. “We want to make it more convenient and efficient,” stated Cheryl Muth, President of the Friends of the East Providence Public Library.
Also new this sale, Friends will be collecting donations for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The Imagination Library mails a book each month to children from birth to kindergarten to encourage reading. The non-profit foundation has distributed more than 300 million books to children in five countries since it was started by the singer/songwriter in 1995.
If you weren’t aware, the Book Sale now fills not one, but two rooms with thousands of books. The main sale in the Program Room at Weaver is arranged like a book store. “We want to make it easy to find what you’re looking for,” noted Book Sale Chair Louise Paiva. Books are arranged upright on bookcases and are sorted into more than 75 labeled categories, ranging from memoirs and spirituality to parenting and children’s chapter books. To help you find your favorite author, novels are arranged in alphabetical order.

Each sale starts with all empty shelves which are filled with books that have been donated by community members or the library in the last six months, since the last sale. In addition to the books on the shelves at the Fall Sale, there are more than 1,000 extra books for restocking. History lovers will be happy to know that there are more than 200 extra history books. Volunteer members of the Friends of the East Providence Public Library will continually fill the shelves with these books throughout the four days of the book sale, so there will always be something different to discover.
Additional books will be available in the second book sale room, the Conference Room, one door down from the main sale.A large oval table in the center of the room will be covered with white plastic bins filled with children’s board books, early readers, activity books, and pop-up books, as well as games, journals and inspirational books. Against the walls, surrounding the table, large plastic book crates on a raised base will display additional novels and non-fiction books, CDs and audio books. The sale is held during library hours, Oct. 23 and 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Oct. 25 from 1 to 5p.m. A preview sale for Friends of the Library will be held Oct. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. Anyone can join the Friends for a $10 annual membership fee, payable at the door or in advance at the circulation desk at Weaver or Riverside Library.
