Woman Charged With Embezzlement
East Providence woman, 18, allegedly stole almost $1,300 from cash registers at Dunkin' Donuts on County Road.

An East Providence woman, 18, has been charged by Barrington police with embezzling almost $1,300 in cash from the Dunkin’ Donuts store at 256 County Road.
Janel Ramos, of 24 Mary Ave., turned herself in to Barrington police on Tuesday morning, Jan. 3, after an investigation into a complaint made last Dec. 27 by the store manager, Dawn Creighton, about a possible larceny.
Ramos allegedly stole almost $1,300 from the cash register by punching in “an excessive amount of over-ring slips,” said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross. She faces a charge of embezzlement over $100, considered a felony.

Ramos worked at the store for about 15 months, according to the store manager. She has been terminated.
LaCross said that Ramos would register an order, give back any change and then go back into the cash register and change the order for a lesser amount, which she would then ring into the register. To balance out the drawer, LaCross said, she allegedly would pocket the difference in cash.

It is not known how long she was allegedly stealing from the drawer. But a police investigation, including a review of surveillance videos, reportedly show her doing plenty of over-rings. In one case, police said, Ramos allegedly pulled out $77 from the register in one day with the over-rings.
Ramos was arraigned at the police station and released with a court date.
