Join us at the Tomaquag Museum for a Fishing Moon celebration on Saturday, April 18th from 10:00 AM to Noon. Two brand new outdoor exhibits will be on display on the campus grounds: a contemporary long-house and a traditional mishoon, a hollowed-out wooden canoe.
Educator Samantha Cullen-Fry will discuss the importance of water access for continuing life ways when she shares the history of the mishoon, the canoes' creation story and share a video of its maiden voyage. To celebrate the fishing moon, there will be a demonstration of traditional fishing net trying. Visitors can also learn traditional ecological knowledge in the Indigenous garden.
This event is free and open to the public. Visitors interested in visiting the museum gallery can access it with regular admission.
