📰 News we're reading

• Euer holds off Lima in Newport's only contested legislative primary (whatsupnewp.com) — Voters in Senate District 13, including Jamestown residents, helped return Sen. Dawn Euer to the Democratic nomination with about two-thirds of the vote over challenger Angela Lima. With Jamestown and Newport fully reporting, all other Newport County legislative incumbents advanced unopposed, setting the stage for the Nov. 3 general election that will decide the region's State House delegation.

• Boudicca wins Around the Island Race line honors (jamestownpress.com) — Jamestown sailors and spectators had plenty to cheer as local resident Rich Moody's 66-foot Boudicca claimed line honors in the Conanicut Yacht Club's 99th Around the Island Race. Steady northerly winds, a shortened course at Beavertail, and tight finishes under the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge made this year's tradition on Narragansett Bay especially memorable for island racing families.

• Mark Girard (jamestownpress.com) — Jamestown is mourning longtime resident Mark E. Girard, 81, who passed away Sept. 4 surrounded by family after 13 years on the island. A devoted husband, father, veteran, and food-service educator, he loved gathering loved ones over meals, digging clams in Narragansett Bay, and serving his church and community; services will be private, with donations suggested to Save the Bay.
