Along with colder temperatures, winter also brings with it higher electrical usage as families keep indoor lights on longer – but thanks to Tri-Town Community Action Agency’s Appliance Management Program, eligible households can limit the impact of those electrical bills.

Through its partnership with National Grid, Tri-Town helps families to determine their current electrical use and identify energy-saving steps they can take, including replacement of old appliances and installation of LED lightbulbs.

Families may also be eligible for Energy Star-rated refrigerators and freezers, smart power strips, water saving shower heads and faucet aerators, intermatic timers, and waterbed mattress replacement.

“Since 1976, local community action agencies have been providing this valuable service to help people save on their utility bills and use those savings to provide food, medicine, and clothing for themselves and their families,” explained CEO Joseph DeSantis. “Over the last year, Tri-Town provided energy- and money-saving upgrades to approximately 200 homes in northern Rhode Island, which also cut down on pollution to the air and water, further reducing the number of health issues among the most vulnerable in our community.”

This program is available to National Grid customers in Johnston, Smithfield, North Providence, Burrillville and Glocester.
