• Hails comes suddenly in 1877 (johnstonsunrise.net) — A violent hailstorm back in August 1877 turned Johnston's fields and streets into a scene of chaos, injuring cattle, shredding crops, and smashing hundreds of greenhouse and house windows. Residents later collected bucketfuls of large hailstones, remembering it as some of the most sudden, destructive weather the town had ever seen, rivaled only by another fierce storm decades later.
   

• Medical bills can end a music career. This RI group helps keep the music playing. (providencejournal.com) — A Johnston drummer nearly lost his sight and career until Rhode Island nonprofit Tune In and Tune Up stepped in to cover surgery costs his insurance wouldn't. The group now connects local musicians and crew with grants, discounted medical and behavioral care, therapy sessions, and even grocery help so health problems don't end their ability to perform.
