Christmas Decorations Missing From Johnston Learning Center

Creative Early Learning Center director said three 7-foot inflatable decorations were stolen off the center's lawn.

JOHNSTON, R.I. — Thieves are setting their sights on Christmas lawn directions this holiday season. The Creative Learning Center in Johnston is the latest to report that inflatable directions have gone missing from their property.

On Tuesday, Wrentham, Mass. police issued a warning to residents to take precautionary measures after a rash of thefts in that town that included inflatable Santas and snowmen.

Creative Early Learning Center director Meghann Houle told WJAR-TV on Tuesday that three 7-foot inflatable decorations had been stolen from the center's front lawn. She said a large penguin, the Grinch, and Frosty the Snowmen were all found missing from the Hartford Avenue location Tuesday morning.

Houle said the anchors that had them in place were bent, with some pulled from the ground. The surveillance cameras on the property were facing the opposite way of the Christmas decorations.

Wrentham Police Chief Bill McGrath said on Tuesday that turing cameras toward directions this time of year is one way to help identify any Christmas thieves. Wrentham police also suggested pointing cameras toward the road near the directions to possible catch a license plate of a getaway vehicle, or placing motion detector lights, security wires and noise deterrents around the decorations.
