Community Rallies For Johnston Firefighter After House Fire

The Johnston Fire Department is collecting donations for the family after their Glocester home burned Wednesday night.

JOHNSTON, RI — The community is rallying around a Johnston firefighter after his family's Glocester home burned in a fire Wednesday night. The Johnston Fire Department is collecting donations and a GoFundMe page is already halfway to its $10,000 goal.

"Friends, we just had one of our members and his family lose everything in a house fire," the department wrote on Facebook. "We're looking for donations of basic necessities."

Donations can be dropped off at the Johnston fire station, located at 1520 Atwood Ave. The department has asked for toiletries, gift cards to grocery stores or pharmacies and clothing in the following sizes:

  • Dad: Men’s XXL
  • Mom: Women’s L
  • Son: Men’s M
  • Daughter: Women’s XS

A GoFundMe page set up by friends of the family has already raised $5,000 of its $10,000 goal. The page is filled with messages of support for the family, offering prayers and condolences for their dog who did not survive the fire.

"This is a wonderful family - I wish I could do more," one person wrote in part. "Thinking of you all and hoping you find peace soon."

According to Glocester Police, the fire broke out around 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

Crews remain on scene Thursday morning. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
