Book Club

The library’s Book Club meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 3pm to discuss a different book. Copies of the book are reserved for all members for your convenience. In addition to the selected books of the month, we discuss other books we’ve read and talk about suggestions for possible selections. On Tuesday, March 3rd, we’ll be discussing Queen Sugar by Natalie Baszile, a gorgeous story about a woman who inherits a sugar farm, and on April 7th, we’ll be reading An Italian Wife, a sprawling family saga by Rhode Island author Ann Hood. Marian J. Mohr Memorial Library, 1 Memorial Ave, Johnston, R.I. 02919, 401-231-4980. http://www.mohrlibrary.org.

Play Reading Group

Our Play Reading Group meets the last Tuesday of every month at 6pm. We’ve read everything from classics such as The Seagull to contemporary work to brand new plays never before read in front of an audience. Local actors come in and bring work to life. They also discuss the play with patrons. On Tuesday, February 24th, we’ll be reading The Terrifying Tales of the Boys from Grimm, a new take on classic fairy tales, and on March 31st actors will be coming to read Moliere’s famous comedy Tartuffe. Marian J. Mohr Memorial Library, 1 Memorial Ave, Johnston, R.I. 02919, 401-231-4980. http://www.mohrlibrary.org.

Drop-In Writing Workshops

Are you interested in writing fiction of your own? Is there a play or short story you can’t seem to finish? For the month of March, our fiction specialist and resident writer Kevin will be leading fiction workshops every Thursday at 3pm for anyone interested. Each workshop will focus on a different element of writing (plot, character, conflict, and structure) and writers can bring in pieces to get feedback. To sign up, please see Kevin at the desk.
